Original 2005 Kind Monitor Addicted to Love Cover

Video for Kind Monitor's original re-invention of Addicted to Love. From an obscure 2004 80's cover album that darkly deconstructed the decades biggest hits. Filmed on HD digital in San Francisco and L.A in early 2005. The video and cover song playfully revisits the iconic elements of Robert Palmer's songs and videos -- the colors, the bright lipsticks, and the arguably misogynistic elements. However, the woman is the protagonist in this version and it is she who has agency in the story, though she is variously bound to the man in their love addiction. The narrative of the video situates a beautiful and lonely Asian call girl in an over-sized room that is her prison. Literally a call girl, she relies upon a cherry red phone to reach the outside world. Using money stashed in her bra and underwear, she contacts a man who appears to be her pusher, selling her glowing red liquids and glowing red pills. She is addicted to these red objects and by the end of the video has teased them into her cherry red lips and mouth, though not without a struggle. The video touches at the objectification of the Asian woman, and turns the stereotypes of the meek and subservient feminine enegery literally upside by the end of the video when she gains the power to climbs walls. At the close the pusher is ensnared in a heart-shaped phone cord trap created from the very phone used to play out their inwoven addictions.
